Josh Harris Captures JB Robinson AMS Event

May 5, 2018, Bloomington, Indiana – Owensboro, Kentucky’s Josh Harris took advantage of Devin Gilpin’s misfortune to race to his first victory in the American Modified Series this year as part of Bloomington Speedway JB Robinson Memorial night. Minutes later, Kerry Kinser claimed the Green Earth Recycling and Composting RaceSaver Sprint Car feature, while Jack Frye won the Brandeis Machinery Super Stock main, and Owen Cosman took the Hornet race.

Starting fifth in the 40-lap modified A-Main, Harris and the rest of the field chased pole-starter Gilpin, who quickly opened a comfortable lead while everyone scrapped behind him. But on the 12th circuit, Gilpin slowed suddenly in turn four and rolled to a stop on the front straight with a mechanical failure. When they restarted, Harris worked his way into second, behind Trent Young. It took a half dozen laps of wheel-to-wheel racing for Harris to get past Young for the lead, but once there, he pulled ahead and scored a nine car-length victory. Ryan Thomas took second from Young, as fast qualifier Wil Krup and Matt Hamilton finished fourth and fifth.

Jubilant Kerry Kinser took the victory in the RaceSaver main, saying afterward that he had wanted to win at Bloomington for a long time, having raced in several different divisions over the years. Starting from the pole, Kinser outran Damon Fortune for 25 laps as John Paynter Jr. took third, with Terry Arthur and Ethan Barrow in the top five. Point leader Ryan Tusing spun after tagging an infield tire but hustled back to tenth after restarting on the tail.

Jack Frye collected his first Bloomington win of the season in the super stocks, ahead of Steve Hawkins, Chris Hillman, Jason Hehman and Steve Hollars. In the hornet feature, it was Owen Cosman finishing ahead of Jeremy Smith, Tom Houston, Mark Gott and Leroy Sherfield.

The next event at Bloomington Speedway features the Tom White & Company Sprint Cars, A.J. Bowlen Realtor with Re/MAX Acclaimed Properties Modifieds, and Brandeis Machinery Super Stocks on Friday, May 11.
