Deckard Captures Bloomington UMP Modified Title

Bloomington UMP Modified veteran Jeff Deckard proved that being consistent and competitive can lead to a champion’s crown. The AJ Bowlen Realtor ReMax Acclaimed Properties-sponsored UMP Modified division competed nine times on Friday nights in 2018 and only two drivers started all of the main events. Deckard notched four top-5 finishes and claimed the title by just 15 points over Jay Humphrey Jr. Humphrey raced hard, and fought through some equipment issues, but still managed six top-10 runs in the nine races. Other than missing Opening Night, Sam Wray made every feature and tallied five top-10 results for third in the point standings.

Jordan Wever didn’t run a modified feature until early May, but between May 11th and June 8th, he tallied a second, a fourth and a second. With a third place run in the final race, he solidified fourth in the final points. Both Ryan Thomas and Josh Harris scored three feature wins in 2018, and with six feature race starts, Thomas finished just four points behind Wever. Thomas notched victories at both the Josh Burton Memorial and the 4th of July Fireworks Night, and other than a 17th place run in the final race for the mods, his worst feature finish was third. Among Harris’ wins was the prestigious JB Robinson Memorial American Modified Series feature in May. Kenny Carmichael took sixth in the points with a second and fourth place among his six feature starts.

Jacoby Hines scored a win in April, but fell out later in the year and took seventh in the points. Tyler Nicely took the Opening Night victory and Jeremy Owens won on May 11th.
