Countdown 8 days: 1990 Jack Rules

The Countdown continues. 8 days until Indiana Sprint week stops at the Historic Bloomington Speedway for the Sheldon Kinser Memorial. More memories and history will be made.
September 14, 1990 2nd annual: Jack rules

A strong field of 41 cars were on hand and among that group Robbie Stanley's 12.410 was the best in qualifying. Heat race winners were Kevin Thomas, Kevin Huntley, Gary Fisher and Jeff Walker. Gary Trammel took the B and would be a factor in the race.

Tony Elliott got the lead early with Kevin Thomas was among those who applied pressure early, but he would go over the bank ruining his bid for the win. By the 22nd lap Jack Hewitt had reached Elliott . Jack took the lead on the 31st lap but Tony reclaimed the top spot 1 circuit later. It was to no avail. Jack, armed with Bob Hampshire's mount was just too tough.

Jack and Bob were a great combination. On October 12, 1990 Jack would score on the red clay for one of his 56 career All Star Circuit of Champions career wins closing out the Bloomington Speedway season. He would add 46 USAC tallies and in 1986 and 1987 Jack and Hamp ran roughshod over the USAC Silver Crown series picking up two titles. Jack cracked the starting grid at the Indianapolis 500 in 1998 - and his sweep of all 4 races in the -Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway was one of the sport's great moments.
Hewitt, with his larger than life personality remains one of the most popular short track racers in history. He is a member of the National Sprint Car and USAC Hall of Fame.

August 1 we honor an all time great Sheldon Kinser when USAC National sprint car series comes to town. Be there.

Oh, and the All Start Circuit of Champions return on August 15 for the Kelly Kinser Classic on Monroe Hospital Night at the Races.
