Kevin Huntley's Finest Hour

There are many reasons why we salute Kevin Huntley - but let's go back to one of the great moments in his career - and it didn't happen on the racetrack. Frankie Kerr was the 1991 All Stars All Star Circuit of Champions king with Kevin Huntley landing in third. Then Kevin was the 1992 champion by 4 points over Kerr. In 1994 Kerr was the King with Huntley the runner up. But the story here is 1993 when the two men finished the year in a flat tie. They were one and two all season long with Kerr having the upper hand. Kevin chipped away. Then came the final two points races.

On a Wednesday October night at K-C Raceway Danny Lasoski won with Kevin next in line. However while battling for position Lasoski had tagged Kerr - and there were some unhappy crews in victory lane.

Then came the Eldora finale - Kerr had a 10 cent part in this throttle linkage break and he was scored 19th. Kevin finished second to Danny Smith - a race he forever thought he should have won. In the end Frankie and Kevin ended in a tie in points. There was more to the story. Into the 1993 season Kevin's crew chief Marshall Campbell left for Warren Johnson's team - and Kevin had to scramble - there was more....

At the 1993 banquet in Celina, Ohio Kevin said the following, "Frankie is the real champion. If it wasn't for bad luck he'd have won and we'd be second. I really need to thank him When our team split up Frankie called my owners and talked them into continuing on. He even helped me get my team ready."

That's character personified - and that means both men. It was that integrity that Kevin carried into his business life that led so many to support what we have tried to do at Bloomington Speedway. It was business, not racing, that led the great folks at Riverway Plumbing and Mechanical to sponsor the Huntleys Hoosier Winged Sprint Series.

For the record the 64th race in the All Star season did not pay points - it was October 14 at Bloomington Speedway - the winner was Danny Lasoski while Randy Kinser nailed down the track championship.

Thank you Kevin and Frankie for a special time in our sport.
